Background/Purpose
There are multiple test which try to assess the integrity of the glenohumeral labrum. Tears in this area are usually referred to as SLAP (Superior Labral tear from Anterior (to) Posterior lesions.
Procedure
Patient is upright with the arm elevated to 160 degrees in the scapular plane. Joint load is applied along the axis of the humerus with one hand whilst the other hand performs humeral rotation. The test can be repeated in the supine position.
A positive test is indicated during the maneuver (usually external rotation) with or without a click or if there is reproduction of symptoms as felt by the patient during overhead or work activities.
